Loved the overall feel of this one and the dark connection between the two characters. The ending wasn’t what I wanted, but I understood why the author did it that way!

This is Mary Poppins Reimagining with a gothic Victorian theme.  This was a fast read under 200 pages.  This romance was fast paced, instant love with magic. Read the trigger warnings before you dive into this one.

Although dark dark romance isn’t my usual genre this was very entertaining and darkly arousing in some part

Mary Poppins gothic retelling! Perfect for spooky season. This book was a bit more of a PNR mixed with gothic. It was a quick read- I wish some of the story lines were flushed out a little more. But a fun read for spooky season.

❗️I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily❗️

This is Mary Poppins reimagining, and I really enjoyed it. This is a quick, but addictive read.

Barrett Blackford has lost his wife, and needs a governess to help with his children, so he puts an ad in the paper. Marigold Peppins sees the ad, she responds. When she gets hired, both her and Barrett realize they need each other. There is an instant attraction between them, but they both fight it….

Includes
  • dark reimagining of Mary Poppims
  • Novella
  • Morally gray characters
  • He falls first
  • Gothic romance
  • Twists & turns
  • Funny

This was a fun dark gothic romance with odes to Mary Poppins mixed in with a little Edgar Allen Poe. I really enjoyed some of the little Easter eggs from Mary Poppins, such as "spoon full of sugar." It made it fun and entertaining to read. Loved the play on names, too. Marigold and Barrett were amazing! I loved them with their perfect chemistry, and the spice was so good!
The only thing I'd say is that the curse breaking was a little anticlimactic, and I would've loved a little more detail on the ending events. Overall, this was a great time, the perfect amount of spice, and the plot was interesting. It's a great quick read, perfect for spooky season!

I loved this gothic Mary Poppins retelling. It is perfect for spooky season. I loved marigolds story but beware of the ending! I am really hoping we will get more in the future! There is magic and curses and spice! I have yet to read something by Dakota I don’t absolutely love!!
