I have such mixed feelings about this story. It took a long time for me to get into it, and from that point on I was engaged with the plot, but never really with any of the characters. The world-building was amazing and so original. I'm giving the book four stars because of that.

DNF the audiobook at 15%. Pretty sure I read this as a kid, though - I remember how it finishes. There can't be THAT many books about a travelling healing woman in an apocalyptic setting who uses snakes, and who needs to find new ones after her own die.

3.5 maybe. I *liked* this, though the writing was a little weird and detached.

This was a very enjoyable read (listen). I liked Snake and empathized with her fears and struggles. Definitely worthy of its Hugo win.
