A great read for any baseball fans. Easy to read, but also contained a lot of fiction with non-fiction. Joe Castle is such a likable character, and Warren Tracey is simply the opposite. John Grisham does an amazing job at making this book a very simple, easy read, yet it's so believable that you truly end up rooting for Joe Castle's character to recover even though it's impossible and you already know the outcome. I love books when the narrator has a bigger story to tell than just talking about their own experience, and Paul Tracey's character does an amazing job with helping us understand the story of Joe Castle is bigger than his own.

Calico Joe by John Grishma
Love baseball stories and this one is a good one.
Story of not only the professional life of a baseball player but his personal home life.
Love the 'fresh from the garden vegetables' when Paul is home for a meal.
Such honor when the player returns rather than playing on the team the field/organization has hired him in his handicap state to take care of the field and scoreboard for life.
The incident that ended one person's life, Joe Castle on the field Warren Tracy won't even come to terms about. His son Paul wants him to apologize to the old dying man before it's too late. He knows and his father knows what happened.
Things really get scary when the police are called for a threat to kill the family cuz of what happened.
The abuse and what the family puts up with are uncalled for and now I realize there's more to the story of what really happened with the pitch.

I won this in one of the goodreads giveaways.

At first I was unsure if I even wanted to enter in the giveaway for this book, because I'm not a fan of baseball. Then I was looking at some reviews and I saw one that says even if you aren't a fan of baseball it's still a good book. That was so true. I don't care anything about baseball, but I loved this book. The story in general and especially the parts between father and son were written extremely well. It was a short and easy read,(I read it in less than one day), that I think anyone would like.

Also, I would like to state that this was my first John Grisham book to read! That's horrible, I know! I have seen the movies for "A Time to Kill" and "The Client", but was never sure I would really be interested in any of the books. Well I'm POSITIVE that more John Grisham books will read by me! :)

The story of this book - which is no way a „must read”, be honest, people! - it's so simple that in the end you realise it's pathetic. Maybe for an American and for a baseball fan it can be acceptable, but... where's the literature, the skill, the virtuosity?

This was a beautiful, sentimental, baseball story. I don't usually read John Grisham, and there weren't a lot of surprises, but it was still a lovely story of regret and redemption.

Predivna knjiga.

I read this as an inside joke to myself, thinking that there was no way in hell I'd like a John Grisham book, but this was so beautiful.

Every character is someone you know, and is already a part of your life.

What else have I been missing out on?

this is my first non court Grisham book. I enjoyed it. I'll give it 2 1/2 stars. the lesson of forgiveness on both receiving sides is very well written, the story off the field is incredible but it was ok. I still enjoyed it, but Grisham isn't my favorite writer. and I can see why people and critics would say this could be an instant classic. If you like Grisham or Baseball or both then you'll like this

Even though it's not that uplifting of a story, I enjoyed how Grisham mixed real 1970's era baseball players into this story. Great read.
