I loved this so much more than I expected. I definitely didn't expect the murder to not be resolved until the last 20 pages, but that's cool. The murder story was definitely more just the glue that brought the trio together.

Where do I begin? The After Party  needs to be hyped more and I’m honestly so surprised this wasn’t discussed more when it was released in 2021. The story centers around three female co-workers that work for a large company that focuses on construction planning in Baltimore, Maryland. Jackie, Draya nor Venus have anything pleasant to say about their superior Rufus Jackson. Yet when someone finds him dead in his home, the women quickly realize they need to figure out how to get the police off their backs before they start to become suspects . I love how each of the ladies received their own pov and we got to learn more about them as individuals. I loved that it showed the realism behind the growing pains of living in the inner city vs the more well off areas of Baltimore- all focused on people of color. I loved how the women grew together in their friendship. The lesbian representation from Jackie was respected and we got to understand why she was holding herself back when it came to dating. We got to understand the struggles Draya went through during her childhood and despite not always taking the morally right path, she never once apologized for doing what she needed to do to further herself. Venus is trying to come to terms with not having to rely on her parents for constant validation. It’s a little bit over 300 pages but I encourage y’all to read this if you are looking for a fictional thriller that isn’t high up on the intense factor.
