I won this book as a FirstRead.
In Come Home, Jill is shocked when her ex-stepdaughter Abby shows up at her house one night, drunk and claiming that her dad was murdered. Jill's natural reaction is to jump in and help Abby and her sister, Victoria, stepping back into her role as their stepmom. However, Jill's fiance, Sam, is less than thrilled about the girls showing back up in Jill's life. Jill decides to help Abby out and look into whether her dad's death was a murder and focuses on it so much that she doesn't give the attention she needs to her daughter, her fiance, and her work.
The story itself was very exciting; I didn't want to put the book down so that I could find out whether Jill's ex-husband had been murdered and if so, why. However, I did not find any of the women in the book very likeable. Jill seemed to think that rules didn't apply to her. I did like Sam, though; his character seemed the most realistic.
In the end, things worked out as happily as possible, and I was satisfied with the ending.

Watch your back John Grisham. Lisa is a wonderful storyteller. Characters are well developed and interesting. I will read other books. Kept me engaged the whole time.
I like this type of book - present day drama/suspense and have read other Lisa Scottoline books that I've liked much better. I felt that so many things in this book were just a little contrived. It's still a good storyline though.
A great plot, but a tedious read. All of the dialogue, and there was a lot of dialogue, seemed forced and stiff.
Love this author, and what she is doing with melding important relationship issues into her very well constructed mysteries and story lines. Another one worth recommending!
You'd think a mystery thriller would thrill you with mystery from page 1...not page 270. It's about a lady struggling between her old kids and her new husband, and if you want that, go for it. Just don't pick it up for the suspense.
My one praise: realistic characters
My one praise: realistic characters
Though the mystery story line was good, it was a bit cloudy with all the emotional drama. I listened on audio, so I think to actually read the hard copy could yield better results. The characters are not all likable and have traits that were annoying, but the mystery itself was great.
I listened to the unabridged audiobook. The story was all over the place. Needed more thorough editing. I should have quit reading about halfway through, but held out - hoping for improvement. Disappointed. I know this author has done so much better.
