DID NOT FINISH

Too similar to recebtly read book, will return to it

This was a sweet family mystery that unfolds across generations. It was well conceived and written, good storytelling. It would be a great vacation read.

terrible writing style, but the plot was so good I read the whole thing anyhow.

It’s a wonderful mix of characters stretching across a century, between Australia and Cornwall. Little Nell is found on a wharf,  alone, after a voyage from England with only a suitcase and a vague memory of someone called the authoress.
Years later, as she learns this she journeys to Cornwall and the mysterious Blackhurst Manor to look for answers, she finds forgotten gardens hold secrets of their own.
Upon Nell’s death, her granddaughter Cassandra repeats her journey to England, and she strays to unfurl the secrets of her heritage and finds much more than she ever realised.

I have just adored this book as I knew I would, weirdly I could only remember little snippets from my previous reading. The mix of timelines is fabulous and I loved all the characters, except perhaps Adeline Mountrachet! I felt totally immersed in this novel and the narrator does an amazing job of holding your attention and I didn’t get lost between timelines. It’s detailed, gripping, written with such care and is just a superb and entrancing read.

I’d recommend this one and if you’ve read it before, try a reread!

First Kate Morton book that I have read. I thought the book was well written but confusing with each chapter going back and forth between periods of time. A great mystery that had you guessing until the end.
