This sounds so interesting, but it failed to deliver for me. It has a very mysterious air to it the whole time, but it took my a while to get into. Once I did, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop & was just left wanting something else or something more. Oddly enough, I would say that I really liked the language & writing style, just maybe not with this plot.

The Forgotten Garden is a multi-generational mystery that spans England and Australia, weaving together the lives of three women. When Cassandra inherits her grandmother Nell’s estate, she uncovers a decades-old secret about a little girl abandoned on a ship to Australia in 1913. As Cassandra unravels the mystery, she uncovers her family's hidden past, connecting love, loss, and the healing power of stories.

An engaging fairy tale for grown ups. Very contrived. Highly recommend for your beach read pile of paperbacks.

Simply, amazing!

In this book we follow three generations of women across three timelines: Eliza in the early 1900s, Nell in the 1970s, and Cassandra in present day. As the story unfolds, their connection is slowly revealed.

This lyrical novel takes its time to build up the characters and the story. The beautiful writing really brings the locations alive and draws the reader into the heart of the book. The references to fairy tales and the walled garden gave it a Gothic feel. I did figure out one of the main twists quite early on, but it was still a engaging read.

A recommended read for fans of Kate Morton and The Secret Garden.

This book was initially released in 2008 but has been republished today in a new edition.

An excellent novel for people who enjoy genealogy.

This book is a lot like Daphne Kalotay's "Russian Winter" -- richly imagined characters, several intertwining plot lines spanning generations, excellent writing, a mystery in regards to one's past and person, and a strong sense of place.

They're also very long and, in parts, slow.. but worth the effort. Perhaps more deserving of a 4.5-4.7 rating.
