I really wanted to like this book.
I really tried to like this book.
Unfortunately with dull, silly characters and obvious, yet slowly and poorly driven plot lines, I could barely convince myself to finish the book. I put it down with only 100 pages to go, and had to force myself to pick it up four months later.
Truly garbage. Uninspired, poorly written garbage. I would recommend this to someone as a way to lull them to sleep.

Wow, I loved this book. Maybe I'm biased since I live 10 minutes way from Cornwall but this book's imagery of the setting, the language used, the characters, I loved it all. When I try to think of a negative with this book, I cannot think of one at all, that is why this is 5/5 stars for me. The mystery keeps you captivated, but I love not only a dual timeline, but multiple timelines. I loved the characters, I guess the only quarrel is that I wanted to know them more, but the book is already quite long and I feel that may have effected the pacing. Also, I think I teared up at 3 different points in this book.
All in all, this book is lovely to read whilst you're under a tree in the English countryside, or to at least imagining you are <3

Classic Kate Morton - in the best way. It's such a complex and beautiful story as always. Multiple generations and locales

Loved this book. Kate Morton has become one of my favorite authors. Good mystery, hard to put down. My only complaint was my frustration at Nell and how she mostly gave up the family and happiness she did have early in her life to dwell on the family she lost. But this comes from someone who has always known exactly where I came from so maybe I would have reacted the same way in her situation, who knows. Still a fabulous read!
