Fantastic as always with Murakami, I love being lost in his strange but wonderful and vaguely familiar worlds.

Wow wow wow wow wow - so much went on, the story just drew me innnnn the fact I’ve read so many pages so quickly is a testament to that.  Usual dose of murakami objectifying teenage girls + women but I’m gonna just block that out of my brain x

I've loved After Dark by this author despite how perplex everything was. I thought I'd like this one as well, especially with all the hype around this book. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case at all and I stopped caring what happened in the middle of the story.

What Murakami's good at:
Writing an extremely convoluted plot
Having two completely different characters in two completely different circumstances and yet still having little bits that connect from one POV to another without giving enough information for the puzzle pieces to fit completely
Making me question the meaning (or lack-there-of) of life
Writing a novel that I genuinely cannot describe the plot of or why I kept reading but managing to hold my attention long enough for me to fight my through the book

What Murakami's bad at:
Describing women - every time a new (or old) female character was introduced did I really need a description of her boobs? No, I didn't
Writing internal monologue - just give it up man, the inner thoughts that you're producing have to be so much more trouble that they're worth, just give it up and keep writing 3rd person perspectives. that way you can save me, an you, a lot of excessive pain.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes, I did. Can I tell you what it's about? NO.

finally free of this book 💪💪💪

I wish he'd stop writing about women the way he does. :((

asides from that omg his ideas are amazing the worldbuilding is incredible just imagine how good his books could be if he knew how to write about women
