revisiting one of my favorite books of all timeeeeee!!!!! i have not read this since high school french class and it still hits the same. the little prince is so special. the child-like wonder is something that's inside everyone, even if being a child is a distant memory. this is one of those books where it's marketed as a children's book but you know it's not. major themes of destructive cycles here- selfishness, greed, manipulation, power, addiction, passivity, etc.. there's many different characters you meet along the way and they all make you come away with a profound realization.
"'do the stars glow so that some day everyone can find a way back to their own?'"
this book takes place in the desert, but also somewhere in space. it's tied to the present but also floating somewhere else entirely. the desert and space are similar when you stop looking.
the addition of 'letter to a hostage' is a great pairing to the little prince. it adds context to the tone of saint-exupery at the time of an occupied france.
"the stars men follow have different meanings. for some people- travellers- the stars are guides. for others they are merely little lights in the sky. for others still- the scientists- they are problems to be solved. for my businessman they meant gold. but for all these people, the stars are silent. for you, the stars will be as they are for no one else...at night when you look up at the sky, since i shall be living in a star, and since i shall be laughing on a star, for you it will be as if all the stars are laughing. you alone will have stars that can laugh!"

Idk how to review this. It’s a cute story. I was entertained. Narration was awesome. I wonder if it should be read in hand as it seems there are illustrations

hm. I would've hated this book as a child so I'm not sure how any children are getting enjoyment from this.
I'll admit that I read through this too fast to catch most of the symbolism so I read a couple analyses on it.
I think this would've worked better as a poem. what the book is trying to say is kind of nice but I didn't really have a fun little whimsical journey reading it which I believe was the intention.

J'ai lu ce célèbre livre "Le Petit Prince" hier soir et je ne peux rien dire si ce n'est que c'était l'un des livres les plus émouvants que j'aie jamais lus. J'ai mis beaucoup de temps à le lire car j'apprends le français en même temps. L'histoire était vraiment légère et pas vraiment difficile à suivre. Le petit prince, un étranger sur terre et notre narrateur qui l' a rencontré au milieu d'un plein désert. Les deux enfants ont parlé de choses importantes dans la vie, comme pourquoi les fleurs ont des épines, mais aussi des adultes et comment ils ne comprennent pas vraiment la vie et ne savent pas ce qu'ils recherchent. Au fur et à mesure que on avance dans l'histoire, nous voyons la formation d'une amitié entre notre protagoniste et le petit prince. on decouvert l'histoire du voyage du Petit Prince à travers les étoiles, les astéroïdes et les personnages étranges qu'il a rencontrés. Et enfin, quand on s' y attend le moins, on est frappé au cœur à la fin. On est profondément ému et dans mon cas, pleure. Même si je n'ai pas rencontré le petit prince, je l'ai rencontré avec le cœur et on voit mieux avec le cœur qu'avec les yeux. J'ai été apprivoisé par lui et quand on est apprivoisés il y a toujour un risque de pleurer. Je me consolerai en regardant les étoiles et en riant comme une folle.
