A warm beautiful tale about our capacity to find beauty and belonging wherever we land...even if it's somewhere we didn't think we wanted to be.

Not everything has a perfect place. And not every story has a perfect end. But that bit is up to you, isn't it?

i will admit that the entire reason i read this was because it was called october, october and it is indeed october. i found it online whilst searching for books in my job. i didn’t read what it was about at all and just started reading it.

i like that it’s short but that doesn’t take away the depth of the story at all. i like that things change and people change and the world shifts. i like the parallel between october and stig. i like that things change, but lots of things stay the same.

i have no idea what to say in this review as i wasn’t expecting this to impact me so much, but october is my month too, so october’s story of growth and change and acceptance and wildness feels entwined with my being.

i wasn’t sure i would like this or care about it but i am so glad october’s story gets to be part of mine now.

This may be a children’s book but, like all good children’s books, it is just as captivating and magical for adults to read. It made me cry multiple times and left me feeling both opened up and soothed. A balm for the soul and a tonic for anyone feeling their way over lifes changes and upheavals. The illustrations by Angela Harding are, of course, breathtakingly beautiful.
