It was good but didn’t really bother me until I actually thought about it. There were quite a few threads of what could’ve been Really good character development that were abandoned and big moments that were brushed aside for a somewhat rushed ending. Why has your character has not changed in over a hundred pages?
If you want to talk about how to address ignorance and make a safer world for people who are different, this was a bad ending. Making a little haven for people who don’t fit societal norms is cool and very found family but on a societal level, they are so much worse off than before especially for those who can’t make it to your group. You’ve made a much more dangerous and ignorant (scared) world than before. In a genre like dystopian fiction, do better

[2.5 stars] it was fine, it just felt like it was missing something
okay i feel like writing a “real” review so here we go.
i by no means disliked this book, i just felt like it didn’t excel in any category. the characters? they were pretty okay. the plot? ehhh. the setting? i really liked it but i felt like it could have been utilized better. the writing? not bad but not noticeably good.
the thing about this book is that there is nothing identifiably bad about it. there’s just nothing super amazing about it either.
overall, this book just got an eh from me. i was engaged while reading but i wouldn’t say i was emotionally invested in the plot.
random thoughts:
there were too many unnecessary characters for this short of a book and they didn’t really have distinct personalities, just distinct hobbies. when they weren’t doing said hobbies, i couldn’t remember anything about them. lo vs. texas vs. elzy? couldn’t tell you the difference.
i liked the casual lgbtq rep:) i feel like that’s way too rare in adult fiction.
ada was actually a really interesting main character and the focus on her medical background was really interesting.
