'Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Volume 1' by Hiromu Arakawa is a fantastic introduction to a new fantasy series.
Yuru lives in a mountain village where he cares for his sister Asa, who must stay in a cell for her protection. But when an attack on the village upends everything that Yuru knows about his family and the world he lives in, he will have to adapt to survive.
Arakawa does an excellent job of dropping us into this world and getting us used to it right before she pulls the rug out from both the reader and the characters. The second half of the volume does get more bogged down as the world and situation is explained but there is so much great action at the front half. I cannot wait to jump into volume 2.
