This was a good thriller, but like others have mentioned, I found the ending to be anticlimactic.

I hate what happened to Eve, but she was unlikable. Yes, I understand she had an untreated mental illness; but she was the worst. Even the events surrounding her death was an example of how of her ridiculousness.

Rose deserved a better friend. I understood it, but disagreed with her decision to keep Eve’s secrets. Doing her best to make sure Zoey sees her sister in a positive light. Again I get it, but I also agreed with Victor. Eve was a cancer to Rose and didn’t deserve her as a friend.

DID NOT FINISH: 52%

I wanted to like this book but at 64%, I still just could not connect with the story or the characters. There was no tension, so suspense, and I knew I had to DNF once I found myself wanting to read everything else but this one. Maybe another book by this author will be for me. I plan to give their other work a try!

Shanora Williams new book Whispers of The Lake is treacherous, and shocking thriller on love and friendship based in small town.

Would you figure out what happened to your best friend if she’s gone missing and this after the ultimate betrayal? Rose Howard would say Yes for Eve Castillo she would. Eve goes missing at peaceful North Carolina lakefront cottage and Rose goes to investigate.

I found the relationships in this book to be very complicated and toxic. Each character is dealing with their own trauma and issues. For good half the book I almost didn’t want to continue but stuck with. I’m thankful that I did cause there is a lot of lies and secrets that get exposed later in the book that makes for shocking ending.

Overall I would recommend this book.

Note: Shanora Williams deserves so much better! This book just came out and you can’t find it in any retail stores and it was traditionally published by Dafina imprint under Kensington Publishing. Once again Black Authors aren’t get advertising, promotions, and put in retail stores even when they get traditional published.

This book gripped me from the very beginning. It was fast-paced, twisty, and bingeable. I found myself wanting to read more because I had to know what happened next. I do wish we got answers about Rose’s love interest in the epilogue, but overall, I really enjoyed this one!

Honestly if it weren't for the narrator, I would have DNF'd. For me, the narrator definitely saved it because it was far too slow moving and did not keep my attention.

Thank you NetGalley, the author, Kensington Publishing and RB Media for advanced copies in exchange for a review.
