In Whispers of the Lake, nothing is as calm as it seems. Rose Howard, an investigative reporter nursing the wounds of betrayal, arrives searching for peace—but instead stirs up storms. Her former best friend, Eve Castillo, has vanished without a trace, leaving behind questions that refuse to sink. Rose is determined, Eve is complicated, and the lake? It holds whispers only the brave dare to hear.

This read felt more murder mystery than thriller. I enjoyed the read, but it was very predictable for me. I loved the alternating POV’s from Rose and Eve. I would recommend this book, I just would classify it as mystery over thriller.

This book kept me interested enough to keep reading, but in the end, it felt predictable. I had hoped for more twists, but to me, it was clear it could only be one of two people. It followed the classic “it’s always the one you least expect” setup. For a large portion, the story dragged without much progress—I found myself at 78% thinking, are we going to get any clues or movement at all? It felt like we were stuck in the same place for several chapters.

Also, the journal entries from Eve didn’t feel necessary. They seemed to be added to provide another layer to the story, but they didn’t really add much to the plot.

Once the reveal happened, though, the action picked up fast, and the final chapters were definitely the highlight for me. I also really enjoyed Rose’s character development—that stood out the most.
