Book Two of the Lucifer series begins with Lucifer creating an entire universe outside of our own, complete with his own Adam and Eve. Universe building is cool and all, but there are parties in our universe that seek control over the new one. Mazikeen raises an army, which actually comes in handy. The Angel Michael's daughter has a score to settle. Another angel takes out a contract on Lucifer.
A lot happens in this volume, but various story lines from the first book are starting to come together.

The one-off Nirvana is just beautifully rendered. The art is amazing. Worth reading for that alone.

Lucifer bursts out of Sandman's shadow in these pages. The vagueness of his motivation in Book 1 crystallises into a desire for freedom so absolute that he's forced into a strategy of biblical proportions. Which is a paradox, of course, and therein lies the theme.

The supporting cast gets to tackle free will within the contexts of their own their own binds too. Mazikeen, Elaine, Meleos, Amandiel, Michael, even Rudd - these characters are the secret sauce. Each has enough drive, spirit, and fallibility to make them easy to root for. They anchor the reader when Lucifer's uncompromising quest leaves little room for compassion or loyalty. His is a very human desire stretched out across an inhuman timescale; it skews his morality in ways that make you second-guess your own.  What more could you ask from a comic about the devil?

This volume takes the characters from Vol. 1 and some new faces through increasingly dramatic challenges of life, death, creation and destruction.
Mazikeen lost her face but regains her connection to her people, the Lillum. They are children of Lilith in exile who long to have a place by Lucifer's side.
Jill Presto has gained fame and success through the personified tarot cards known as the Basanos but they will come extract their payment and keep using her until there is nothing left.
Lady Lys is a lover of pain in Hell, who makes the mistake of toying with the damned.
A young centaur attempts to warn Lucifer of his coming doom
And a fallen cherub named Gaudium provides comic relief while looking over the half-human child of Michael the archangel.
We also get to see Death from the Sandman comics, which was a real highlight for me. Definitely invested in this series so far.

And now it begins! With Lucifer's creation, many players are coming to the stage. It's great see Elaine again, with her new "pal" Gaudium, the fallen cherub. Mazikeen steps up in a big way. Gentleman, sword master Christopher Rudd shows up, making waves in Hell. I've always liked him. It's all great. Except fr Ryan Kelly bringing down Peter Gross' work. However, there's even more Dean Ormston!!! He is amazing, especially with disturbing demons & creatures.
