So sad...

7/10

Can't say the author stuck the landing but I still enjoyed it, especially the prickish foil.

Sinceramente… no sé ni qué decir de este libro. Es como que sí pero no todo el tiempo. De hecho no tengo claro si han resuelto algo en algún punto o si simplemente no había nada que resolver en primer lugar.
What a mess.

Solide, auch wenn erst ab Seite 100 Spannung ausreichend aufgebaut.
Kann man machen, muss aber nicht sofort nächsten Band lesen.

I listened to the French audiobook!

I liked the story, although the book spends a lot of time just explaining things to you.

The mystery was interesting enough, but I think the greater value of the book comes from the rivalry between Lupin and Beautrelet.

I really liked Isidore, but the beef Lupin had with him was wild like dhsvsjshus that's a 17 year old!!! Stop trying to make him cry!!

But I did like seeing a meaner side of Lupin. That ego truly is his biggest flaw, and that's interesting to explore. (Though I do prefer being in his head like some of the other short stories because he's kind of hilarious.)

Also the end shocked me. I did not expect that at all!!

It brings me to my biggest gripe about the book: the women are really interesting, they have so much potential to be great characters, and I really like the way they weight on Lupin's life and actions, but they're barely there. They almost never speak or act… The potential is there but unexplored. Then again, I suppose that's not too bad for the early 20th Century!

Not as much fun as the first two. And that ending sucked.

Convoluted plot. I also didn’t not really enjoy the writing style- there was SO much exposition and so many different characters. There was a whole chapter (chapter 4) where the author started writing in first person (the rest of the book was in third person), and I still have no idea who that first person narrator was supposed to be.
The mystery/“history” of the Hollow Needle was an interesting concept, and I liked the idea of tying it into real French history, but I felt like the author didn’t really spend too much time on that until the end. Even then, he didn’t really wrap up that plot line very well. The ending felt kinda abrupt.
Maybe I would have enjoyed it more in the physical copy vs the audiobook, but I kind of doubt it.
