I was going to give it 4 stars for the slow pacing in the middle, but I can't after that cute ending! Excellent, excellent, excellent worldbuilding. Talking animals, a sentient house, fairies, female friendship, and more. What a great interpretation of the classic Sleeping Beauty.

This book is amazing! I love it. I read it a long time ago, and I've been looking for it for the longest time. I just couldn't remember what it was, but now I know! I'm so happy!

A great read by one of my favorite authors.

quite lovely although I found the ending a bit hard to follow.

This story is just not for me. I love Mckinley's work, and I've picked up this particular novel twice, but I always DNF. The pace is really, really slow (even for someone who enjoys that) and I couldn't get into it, really.

I had rather high expectations for this book because Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite fairytales, and I am always on the lookout for a good retelling.

This is certainly a creative version of the story, and I admire how the author adds depth to her characters. The story itself was interesting, but it could have been effectively told in 200 pages instead of over 400. I felt like certain parts were extremely drawn out, and the pacing was rather slow for my taste. The author’s descriptions of scenery were fantastic, and her writing style was beautiful. I just wish it would have moved faster because at certain parts I lost interest until the story picked back up.

I really wanted to like this. The world McKinley created was great and enriched with such fascinating and intricate details (the first chapter was just so lovely to read). But Rosie was such a boring character that I honestly didn't care about anything that happened to her. The whole novel just should've been about Kat. And while the animal characters were an interesting addition, they had terribly confusing names and I could never keep any of them straight. I finished quite a few paragraphs of interactions with the animals confused about who was talking and what just happened.

THIS AUTHOR IS AWESOME. OMG LIKE EVERY SINGLE BOOK IS AN AWESOME FAIRY TALE RETELLING OF AWESOMENESS.

I loved this book by Robin McKinley! I can totally relate with the personality of the heroine! And this story is so beautifully told.

It was too long. I liked the beginning, but after she found out she was the princess, it just dragged and I wanted it to be over. And I still don't understand half the things that happened.
