I genuinely wish everyone would read this book. I want to think on it, process it, and have everyone I know read it.

Part 1: ‘start with you’ a good introduction to concepts I was unfamiliar with before. Clear reference to those in lower standards of living but mainly throw away comments and false acknowledgment. Doesn’t acknowledge a lot of the real problems faced instead focused on topics at face value.
Part 2 ‘turn your eyes outward’ repetitive and boring. Lack of interesting or even thought proving perspective

I was initially put off by the amount the authors were trying to use their shared religious beliefs as a way to connect with me- but kept reading/listening. If everyone took the steps listed at the end of each chapter to become more informed and a more generous listener, and stuck less on “their side” our world would undoubtedly be a better place and our governments would be more representative, less divided, and more effective.

An important read! With all the angry political commentary flying around on Facebook and elsewhere, it can be hard to have a political conversation these days with anyone, let alone family or friends who have different opinions. Beth (a Republican) and Sarah (a Democrat) try to renew those very important conversations in a way that makes them much more useful. They outline a plan to figure out your own values, challenge where you get your news and information, and give ways to have empathetic discussions with others without fighting. The authors are Christian and they do discuss their faith, but this book will be useful for those without faith as well. If you are tired of political conversations and everything feeling like a fight, please check this book out (or their podcast-Pantsuit Politics).
