as cliché as it sounds...i couldn't put bloodfever down! the reader learns more about the dark world in dublin's shadows, right along with mac. she's a great guide and an even better storyteller. karen marie moning writes mac's character development so compellingly as the shades of grey begin to seep into our heroine's morality. just 2 books in, and the split between past-mac and present-mac is so clear. i'm eager to know who she'll be at the end of the series.

a key indicator that mac is developing is her growing ability to predict jericho's moves. he's still largely unpredictable. but, i like that mac is slowly starting to think/reason like he would. the cave scene(s) is/are perfection...MWAH! chef's kiss! i too am dying to know more about this man's past, and the crumbs we got (e.g. introduction of ryodan etc) weren't satisfying. however, i understand revelations will only come with time - expect something substantial on books 3/4! again, hats off to moning for crafting such a captivating character with jericho. in urban fantasy, there's an abundance of cookie-cutter bad-boy heroes designed to make the primarily female readership swoon. but jericho is in a league of this own. his badness is actually believable...he's terrifying!

bloodfever sees an expansion of the unseelie creatures introduced in darkfever - hunters, sidhe-seers and so on. i liked the extra sidhe-seer lore...they had a nunnery/handmaid vibe...religious with sinister undertones. i think the only thing stopping me for giving 5 ⭐s is the slight repetitiveness: mac has a showdown with an unseelie thing/the lord master...jericho shows up...they escape the antagonist/the antagonist retreat for now (we know they'll return)...mac and jericho argue about ...rinse and repeat.
