A quickie introducing Summers adoptive brother Kane, Im wondering what role he will play in the grand scheme of things... this is a bit of a quick heartwrenching story... A little like the film just like heaven

And i really could picture Kane a young Mark Ruffalo easily .....

********** Contains Spoilers**********

I’ve been a fan of Dannika Dark, and the Mageriverse that she’s created since I purchased the Mageri Series Boxed Set back in 2014. I’ve read a lot of the books from the Mageriverse multiple times since then, but have never gotten around to posting a review on any of the books so here goes. My favourite go to reads from the Mageriverse are Closer, Risk, Three Hours & Two Minutes. I’m planning on reading the whole Mageriverse, as it’s been ages since I’ve immersed myself into the thrilling, action packed and amazing universe of Immortals and Breed that Dannika has created.

I thoroughly enjoyed this insta-love story of Kane and Caroline. Kane’s an extremely sensitive Sensor. Sensors can get emotional imprints from those around him. Due to Kane being raised in a human family, he was never taught how to turn the frequency down on the emotions/feelings he receives. He’s avoided human touch for years, and constantly wears gloves to be safe from being overwhelmed by the emotions/feelings even from just a single touch. Kane is a loner. Caroline is a defective Sensor, meaning she can receive emotion/feelings from others, but can’t return them. She’s all alone in the world as her father went missing years ago. She has her work friends but that’s about it.

Caroline is abd*cted by a human male on her way home and is thrown in his boot and knocked unconscious with a tyre iron. She tried to get away as she could feel the evil intent from him but he caught her. Kane accidentally touches the man, who abd*cted Caroline and feels the evilness of him and feels that he’s enjoyed k*lling multiple women, and will definitely k*ll again. Kane ends up doing the world a favour by k*lling him, and possibly saving countless more women from the same fate as all the other women. Kane ends up escaping in the man’s car, decides to drive to the guys house, so he can wash up and then be on his way. He knows that he’ll most likely get caught, especially if there’s a Chitah investigating the m*rder.

Kane feels the emotions from the boot, and when he opens it he thinks that the man, had already k*lled her. When he goes to check her pulse to make sure, there’s a flash of light and he ends up in her head. They’re both completely freaked out. Most of the book is inside Caroline’s mind due to her being unconscious. This is where they get to know each other, try and work out why it’s happening to them, and to find a way to wake her up. For a short story this book is definitely an emotional roller coaster. I’m looking forward to reading more Mageriverse books. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

Too short. Way too short. I want to see more of Kane and Caroline. I want to see him see Sunny. I also want to know more about this Chitah bc I have a strong feeling I know him. yes, so much I need more of.

I always wondered about the Sensors in the stories of The Breed. This one kicks of with a slow start with a murderer and a chance meeting with Kane. Kane's gone and stepped in it here and on his way he meets a beautiful woman.... but she's dying.

5 Closer Stars

If you read the Mageri series then you already know Kane is Sunny’s brother. The jail scene in the last book has always been on my mind. Why Kane? Why the girl. Even the first time I read the books it was always a question I wanted to know.

Well if I had known Closer was going to give me those answers I would have picked it up a heck of a lot faster than I did.

Kane a Sensor, who knew, I won’t give you details it’s a short story so pick it up. But I hope to see a reunion with Sunny and the twins and Uncle Kane. This novella really ties in that whole jail scene and why it was or had to be Kane.

Can we just lock Dannika in a room so she can give us more of these amazing characters? Is that asking too much? lol Yeah I know it is but damn this just makes me want to have more, more, more.

Again great narration! Can’t say enough good things about Nicole Poole’s performance.

I thought this was a good short story. I loved the banter between the two characters. I especially liked that they completed eachother. She had just the right amount of power for him and he did the same for her.

This novella is set within the Mageri World but not specifically within the world. Yeah, I know that sounds a bit 'weird' or 'odd' but once you read it, you'll totally get what I'm saying!! We do learn more about the society’s view of “differences” within their own breeds. This brings an interesting perspective on how we treat each other our bias and how we judge others.

“Closer” is about two individuals who may not have ever met if it weren't for the circumstances they were thrown into and how they assist each other to survive and learn that they are not the only ones who are different.

Lots of emotions. WOW! Seriously WOW! Emotional roller coaster. I was extremely impressed on just how complete/full this story was considering it’s a novella! You wanted there to be more, not because something was left out or it had a cliff hanger, but because you wanted to know more about Kane and Caroline!

“Closer” can be read as part of the Mageri Series or as a standalone novella. Though I’m sure that if you haven’t read the Mageri Series, once you read this novella, you’re going to want to! Please visit my blog to to read my reviews for Sterling, Twist and Impulse.

After reading The Gift, I felt like I was missing the stories of two couples. One of those was Kane and Caroline.

Closer brings us the story of Kane and Caroline. Kane is a Sensor who has never really had the opportunity to learn about his Breed or even how to control his own gifts. He's a bit of a loner. Then he stumbles across a man that Kane picks up is a murderer. Kane does what he believes he needs to do, despite it being against the law to hurt a human.

Then he meets Caroline. Caroline is a spunky, fun character. But the thing here is, the whole story of these two takes place inside her head. All of the revelations about each other and even their own gifts is all within her head. I kept expecting things to happen that would take the relationship beyond that. Instead, it just got sadder and sadder.

Despite getting to know these two characters inside and out throughout the whole book, I did not feel the connection with them that I would have needed to to make me cry. So even though in some circumstances I could see this being a tear jerker, I didn't shed any. Boy, did that sound callous! I felt bad for the characters, but I didn't cry. That sounded a bit better!

This is a cute, emotional novella that will give you a peek inside the Mageri world and some of the side characters. In fact, I think this may actually happen before the first book of the Mageri series. It's hard to say, but the timing seems that way to me. Anyway, if you are a fan of this series, you won't want to miss out on this little side story. It's always great to come back to a beloved world!
