This is nothing but a compilation of stories by other journalists. The first half is just a retelling of stories you already know. We saw The Act. We saw Heavenly Creatures. We saw the Ted Bundy documentary. We know the Slenderman story. It's a slog to get through. No new insight here. 2 stars for a great title that tricked me into getting this book.
The first couple of items in the last section bogged down, but other than that, a good sampling of true crime articles.
The last third fell apart for me, wasn't interested in that section but rest was interesting
This is probably closer to a 4 but I’m just giving this a 5 stat rating in a futile attempt to counteract the bootlickers who gave this book 1-2 stars because they were upset that a book about crime would dare to question if gun laws and over-policing could possibly contribute to
this massive societal problem :)

This was an excellent collection, and it was structured very well. I enjoyed the mix of different types of true crime writing- narrative and otherwise.
Dull. Dull and boring. These are not 'true tales of crime, murder, deceit, and obsession.' These are recycled articles that rehash the same thing over and over again. Boring. It's a trek to get through this book and it does NOT hold one's attention. Especially considering all these news articles can be read in their original forms. This is just a compilation of previously published works. I cannot stress enough how dull it is. There's no point to it.
A collection of essays from various authors about Gypsy Rose, Ted Bundy, Slenderman, etc. And then topics like gun violence, ICE/CPB, policy, and junk science.

A mish mash of captivating stories, and dry spells, worth it if you don't mind skimming around for the good stuff.
