Hated the guy for what he did and there was literally no justification for his decision to leave them (it’s not a spoiler). But at least he had a decent character development.

I did not care for any of the characters or the way the book was written.
Every single details was drawn out, every thought shared, every event gone over twice.
It was drawn out and became real boring real quick. I skimmed the last 85% of the book.

high school sweethearts, girl gets knocked up, writes a letter telling her bf, his mom gets rid of the letter, she thinks he knows, he leaves to play hockey, she stays to finish school. 5 years later he shows back up in town, her mom is in the hospital, he finds out they have a kid, he almost loses his spot on the team, her mom dies, the three of them move to New York so he can play hockey. Fin.

This book is so close to being good. The basis is great. The execution is a little painful. It needs like 100 pages extra purely dedicated to adding some depth to the characters, especially Alec. I literally know nothing about this man except that he misses Laura desperately because he says it four times on their first date. It feels like this book might have been conceptualized, written, and published in a single day.
As a queer person, the representation in this book just misses the mark by so much.
5.5year olds don’t have romantic relationships which makes this plot line feel unbelievably forced and uncomfortable.

i cried, i died, i was reborn, i lived.

this book has touched me emotionally in such a way, that i have yet to process it.
what started as a quick-read ended with a new way of seeing life.
to lu and alec: i will love you two forever. i will always be a sucker for hockey boys and these two have made the story magical for me.

a second chance romance where neither of them ever stopped loving each other. the perfect way to enjoy life.
