This book was so cute and had so much heart. There are certain things that Pru does every single time that makes her an auto-buy author for me. She always writes characters that feel so real. I don't know if she is writing based on experience, or is just able to capture the experiences of others so well, but it feels like she just gets it. And I wish I had a better way to say it, because that's exactly what I said with the foster home storyline in Shut Up and Bite Me. But in this book she nails what it's like being a mom, being a single mom, and a working parent. Not a spoiler but a short scene detail: there is a scene where she has a parent teacher conference and while I didn't have the exact same issue as the FMC did, I literally have been in that same exact spot several times since my son has been born. I'm still traumatized from a call I got during summer camp a couple years ago, and I wish I had responded how the two leads in this book do.

This is not a spoiler, it's in the plot summary. The storyline about our FMC's mom gave me some existential dread. Mainly because now that I'm in my 30's I'm at an age where mine and my friend's parents have become chronically sick or went into hospice. I think Pru does a great job of handling that storyline with care, and I liked the room she gave the FMC to grieve the life she thought she would have with her mom even though her mom was still alive.

Such a bad writing style. The story is so impossible and crazy. The miscommunication in the end is just stupid and boring.

I try not to DNF books because it hurts my heart so I pushed myself to finish this book. That alone should explain how little I enjoyed this, I didn't, I literally didn't like a single part of it. MOVING ONTO SOME SPOLIERS!!!
Usually in these types of books the kid can carry the whole thing, but Jack was barely there. I always love when the kids are so cute and funny and make the book better and there just wasn't any of that. When the MMC found out he had a son it felt like he wanted nothing to do with him, he just wanted to get back with the Lu. And there was literally NO GROVELING, NOT ONE OUNCE! Everything about this felt bad and I don't reccomend. This is my harshest review, so I apologize but thanks a lot bookstagram for this bad rec.

“I love you, Laura. I always have. You’re the only woman I’ve ever loved and the only one I ever will.”

unfortunately, it was wasted potential.
everything felt boring, literally everything, the characters, the story, the smut. the only reason i finished reading this was because i liked the kid, he was actually cute and the only character that didn't make me roll my eyes.
