An interesting first book in the series. The story jumps perspective between the 2 main characters Edgar and Max which made me feel as though I didn't get to know either one particularly well. Hopefully their characters will develop more in the following installments. I didn't like it quite as much as her Ruth Galloway series. I enjoyed the slightly decaying golden age theme with the seedy seaside towns and magicians.

Missing the author's notes - enjoyed the magic spin, which could be hard to tackle in writing, but works well here as a side focus.
funny mysterious

I started reading this series with book 4, so reading the first one from this instalment explained a lot of the things happening later on. It was a good book, well written and I am happy i was not able to figure out the killer until a bit before it was reviled.

I'm a big fan of Elly Griffiths and needed a book I could read very quickly to get out of my reading rut. The Zig Zag Girl hits the spot with interesting settings (50s Brighton) and the concept of magic murders. I enjoyed this quick but quirky read.
