I have to say, this is one of those rare series' that gets consistently better as it goes on. Often, there's a dip in the middle, but that didn't happen here. I can't say that I like Nita - she pisses me off too much - but I can certainly appreciate her character growth and the arc it takes throughout the series. And Kovit, despite being "evil", is by far one of the best characters. 😅 I'm glad I stuck out my Nita-hatred, because the rest of the story made it worth it. 😊

A great conclusion to the series!
Graphic: Violence
I was recommended this series by a ninth grader that I student taught. I thought it was really interesting throughout! I had a good time reading, and I know some of my students now do too. Would recommend if you like a good monster-mafia-type thing!
What a fantastic trilogy! They are great to read back to back as the story itself is only a three week period. I love how this story wraps up.
I started this series over 3 years ago and I thought I would feel more about finishing it but the end felt a little anticlimactic

I burned through the entire Market of Monsters trilogy in the span of two days, that's how much of a chokehold Schaeffer's cast of characters had on me -- and I mean the entire cast.
From Nita and Kovit, to Diana and Adair, to even freaking Fabricio, Henry and Nita's nutty mom, damn! They were all such likeable characters, consistent in their characterisation. The pull to know more about them, their backgrounds and what they'd do next was too strong to resist. I barely slept those two days.
Apart from the pacing and the delicious twists and turns of the plot, I also enjoyed:
- the various countries the three books brought us to
- the aroace relationship(s)
- the characters' ties to their cultural roots: characters from Thailand, Chile, Argentina? And having their homelands actually matter to them? Yum
- the conversations and self-discoveries that Nita and Kovit have between and among themselves
- even if I didn't trust the characters whose story I was following, after the second book, I trusted the author to tell a thrilling story of desperate, human people embroiled in fun, dark drama
It's been a while since I've sat back in my chair feeling so satisfied and buzzed after finishing a series. Im fact, I'm so pleased I'm smiling like a loon. Is this what Kovit feels like after eating someone's pain? 10/10, would recommend. Would read again.
