This installment in the Serafina series is exciting from the very beginning. It definitely keeps you guessing. Beatty captures your attention & holds it throughout the book.
As the conclusion of Beatty‘s Serafina trilogy, the Splintered Heart definitely delivered as a conclusion and also followed in his pattern of “page turners.“ At the signing I was able to go to, Beatty said this book is his favorite of the three. I’m not sure I agree yet. He certainly added some clever plot elements, like the return of the black cloak. Other pros were the larger emphasis on friendship and self-sacrificing love reminiscent of Harry Potter. What I’d consider cons were the somewhat overly new-age glimmers and Elements, especially as Serafina is becoming part of the spirit world and is more and more able to influence the elements by “becoming one with them.“Just a bit weird to me – and I’m sure somewhat influenced by the Asheville community element in which Beatty lives.
Another good book in this series, hope there is more coming!!
Really enjoyed this trilogy. Serafina is a great character. Secondary characters are also fully developed and play important roles in the story. The entire series is a bit dark, but this final book is a bit more frightening than the first two.
Highly recommended for those who like fantasy with a dark edge. Bonus for the setting on the historic Biltmore estate in NC.

I was a little worried for this book after the slight disappointment of book 2, but Serafina and the Splintered Heart restored my faith in this series. I am very glad to have read it. <3

Just like the last two books, this one was filled with twists and turns that kept the reader wanted to read more and more. Just as you would have a theory, some new twist would come and make you rethink what will happen next. The book starts off this adventure strongly with Serafina using her wits yet again to escape from mysterious trouble that seems to surround her life. However, this time something is different than before.... Serafina is now faced with maybe her most difficult obstinate yet.
This tale is great for all ages because it combines history and magic to makes me want to read more and more about Serafina and her adventures.

Read these for Believathon 3 for a mystery prompt. I found this book interesting as I'll be going back to read the first book when its available from the library.
I adore the characters that Beatty has brought to life. It is really refreshing to have adolescent main characters who have a profound and passionate connection to one another that is not romantic or sexual. This story demonstrates bravery, friendship and love so well. I also really dig the mood of these books; dark and atmospheric, true to how these mountains feel in real life. I look forward to following all of Serafina's future adventures
