Same vein as Possession or Perry’s Melmoth, but actually quite well-done. For example, the scholars actually seem smart.

I listened to this book and it was LONG!! I had a hard time paying attention for over 23 hours and sometimes found my mind drifting. That being said, I was interested enough to listen to all 23 hours. I love historical fiction and this fit the bill. I really enjoyed reading about Esther and her struggles as a woman writer/philosopher/intellectual in the 17th century. I would recommend but maybe to read, not listen to.

I loved the story. I did want it to go a bit quicker because I was eager for the story, and the writing can be dense sometimes with a lot of background.
reflective

Such a GREAT book! More than five stars. I especially enjoyed the Jewish history and Jewish perspective in this novel. There's just so much important history out there, waiting to be heard.

Beautifully written, if overly long. Kadish has a lovely way with words and her characters shine in that way only truly three dimensional beings can.

Was not in the mood for that story at the time. Seemed decent may finish later
