I love his author. She did an excellent job of writing about empowered women.

Your typical neo-Gothic romance, with a banal heroine who visits the creepy mansion where her mom died in order to uncover the secrets surrounding her father's disappearance. Includes the two potential lovers - shady characters through most of the story, with one being pronounced "good" & the other as "bad" at the end of the story - and a cast of one-dimensional "filler" characters who exist only to serve the writer's need for a convenient way of conveying information that the heroine (& readers) need in order to solve the mystery. Comes complete with the traditional happy ending in which the heroine risks herself -& experiences personal realization/growth- in order to solve the mystery and land the "good" man.

The book started slow - and all the answers are revealed before page 90, if you know what you're looking for. I expected more from MZB than what this book delivered.

Good read, but not as memorable as Witchlight.

This was actually really disappointing for me. I expected more from Marion Zimmer Bradley, but this book just didn't deliver. It wasn't horrible, but I wasn't thrilled with it, either. The story was fairly slow for the first half, roughly, and barely picked up towards the end. It was fairly predictable and not very impressive.

Enjoyed; though I skimmed the ending because I wanted to go to sleep yet had to know how it would end.
