Kate Baer has a beautiful and candid voice in her poetry… I particularly enjoyed the pieces on motherhood
Im just so thankful the author shared these poems. I’ll read them over and over again. As a new mother who gave birth during a pandemic, I don’t have a lot of face to face interactions to know if I’m alone. These words helped me realize that I am in fact not alone, and they’re a reminder that I don’t have to hide my truth.
I’m gonna be honest, I’m not 100% sure I get poetry. This was a collection of poems about the experience of being a woman, a wife, and a mother. Some of them made me feel sad but honestly, they don’t sit with me the way I feel like poems are meant to.

“What Kind of Woman” is a beautiful poetry collection on mother- and womanhood. I enjoyed part one more than two and three, but I had a great time overall. I’ll definitely read Kate Baer’s other two collections!

Barr’s poetry is bristling with feelings both sharp and tender. It’s staccato, covering current events and daily life in ways that may be most accessible to women with children. Many of her poems deal with motherhood and the ache of marriage.
I love this collection of poems! {Thank you to Harper Perennial for this gifted advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.}⠀

I don’t often gravitate to poetry, and need to set aside some mental focus to really dig in and enjoy it. But when I do, it can be transformational.⠀
⠀
This small collection of poems by Kate Baer is excellent! There are three sections - for being a woman, a wife, a mother - which are all so insightful and intelligent. If you’re a woman, a wife, and/or a mother, you will feel understood in these poems. If you aren’t...well, it’s a good chance to experience a life that isn’t your own.⠀
⠀
Unflinching and bleak at times, these poems are witty and cheeky as well. Even the Author’s Note at the end is sassy.

1. Very boring.
2. Unmemorable and dull.
3. Not relatable for me with all the motherhood things.
