The ending broke my heart in a way no fairy tale ever had before—it was sad, but also so full of meaning. That bittersweetness was inspiring for me as a young reader, and it’s one of the reasons I write today. In fact, the first chapter of my own fantasy novel "Icebound" is called "The Little Prince," and roses remain a motif throughout my entire series.
