“Sleep well, sunshine girl. I will take whatever dreams you give me.”

“Tarisai,” she said, “Tarisai Idajo.”

Stunning! The audio book is a masterpiece because the narrator truly brings this fantastical world to life with full commitment to its unique names, culture and songs. Perfection!

This had alllll the things: excellent world building, character development, plot, cool magic system…etc. I love the love in this book. All of it. Found family, friendship, romance. You name it.

Excited to read the next book and see where this takes us.

I enjoyed this, but didn't love it. I will probably read the second one eventually, but I am not going to make it a priority.

I hope you never win the pride of a monster, Tarisai. It’s worse than their contempt.

Raybearer had me blown away from the first chapter and just kept delivering. The world building was absolutely stunning. The characters were deliciously complex, and often quite love-able (KIRAH, DAYO, SANJEET). It also touched on so many real-life issues in a powerful way: imperialism, the erasure of cultures, how our parents shape us, and how they don’t. Some of the quotes gave me chills and made me put the book down for a second. I also had no idea where the story was going and enjoyed every twist and turn. Can’t wait to see where the next book takes Tarisai and the gang.

I had a great time reading this! The audio book is also excellent; I switched back and forth.
