Oh wow. I think Jane Austen herself would approve of this book. I have always, always been a fan of Mary Bennet. The more mysterious, “ugly” Bennet sister. This book is the absolute perfect deep dive into her life and how it turns out. This book deserves more hype and dare I say a cinematic movie. Only complaints? Slow first 200 pages, and the ending seemed a bit meh for an Austen romance… I needed more there. Most definitely recommend!

I absolutely loved this book! It mirrors Austen so well and definitely is a must read for all Austen fans.

A very interesting twist on a classic
I very much enjoyed this novel. I'm always a sticker for an unusual narrative and this one hit the spot. The author wires Mary's character with a lot of empathy, and I couldn't help but be drawn in to her point of view. I enjoyed the first section, a retelling of P&P, and was nervous when the story swing to that of Mary alone. However, this section was just as satisfying and I felt it came to a suitable conclusion. I will recommend this title.

This book was delightful fanfic and I think I will never see the bennet sisters the same ! Mary will never be the dull party pooper she once was to me
I took off one star for this same reason though, as I could not love the way it changed beloved characters, often making Lizzie, Jane and Even Charlotte, seem quite unkind and borderline cruel at times, especially in the first half of the book
I did enjoy the character developpement that occured and loved the ending, or rather what happened just before it (iykyk), as i found the love interest and plot to be a little  stupid, albeit still agreeable, as they say ;)

Tells the story of Mary, third Bennet sister in Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I loved this. For anyone that has felt invisible, unconventionally attractive and overlooked. Janice Hadlow beautifully gives voice and growth to Mary, in a time where a single woman of meagre financial means is reliant upon friends and family for support or face the only other respectable occupation of live-in governess.

I personally have never particularly liked the characters of Darcy or Lizzie so I was especially pleased how this author explores their characters in further detail. Ms Caroline Bingley also makes for a very viable villainess :)

This book was everything I was hoping it would be! Written by British author, Janice Hadlow, it provides an overlay of Mary's experience from the well-loved story "Pride and Prejudice," while also providing a continuation of Mary's story (with the stories of the other Bennet sisters playing out in the background).

Being an avid Pride and Prejudice fan on the page and on the screen, I was personally impressed with the narrative Hadlow produced from Mary's perspective. Each event that took place in the novel was detailed realistically, and was in perfect harmony with Austen's original tale. I think that Austen would be proud of Mary's independent journey and search for meaning. I loved the relationships Mary was able to develop with other Austen characters, as well as new characters introduced by Hadlow, herself. I loved the themes of independence, propriety, feminism, family relationships, avoiding toxicity, cultivating individual talents, and defying convention.

Overall, I don't think I will ever look at Mary Bennet the same again! Which I believe is a good thing. I love this book and would recommend it to any Austen fan-- I don't believe it would disappoint!
