I like reading this book because I can somehow relate to the character as someone who is mostly misunderstood at home and I'm glad she found her own happiness that she deserved at the end🤸🏻♀️

Reread this novel right after a deep dive into Pride and Prejudice, and it really is a masterwork. Hadlow captures Austen's voice admirably, and the plot feels no more and no less unlikely than that of PnP. Mary gets the justice she deserves! Mrs. Bennet apologists will not be pleased however.

As someone who doesn't often tackle lengthy novels, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed The Other Bennet Sister. I opted for the audiobook, and it was a fantastic choice—the narration truly brought the story to life.
Fans of Pride and Prejudice will find familiar faces here, with most of the beloved Bennet family making an appearance, alongside a few intriguing new characters. The real highlight of the novel is Mary Bennet. Watching her character evolve from the overlooked sister into someone with depth, growth, and independence was a genuine pleasure.
The book offers a few unexpected twists, yet it stays true to the style of the classic novels it echoes. One aspect I particularly appreciated was the absence of profanity or anything immodest—this made the reading experience all the more enjoyable and accessible for a wide audience.
If you're a fan of romance in the vein of Pride and Prejudice, this novel will likely resonate with you. However, I did find it a bit too lengthy, and the focus on male characters was somewhat overwhelming at times, which led me to dock a star from my rating. Despite this, Janice Hadlow's writing is engaging, and the characters are compelling enough to compensate for these minor shortcomings.

Perceptive, delightfully written, and a great source of joy. Anyone who is a fan of the great works of Austen is sure to enjoy this, and also those who have never ventured into her works. The questions of the fate of young women ‘lacking in charm and beauty’ makes for a fascinating read. I can’t recommend this enough.
