I love all the Jane Austen novels and have read them many times, the other Bennet sister is the perfect addition to the original ones. Seeing the story of Pride & Prejudice through Mary’s eyes is fun, surprising and very entertaining. I could feel the voice of Jane Austen through the pages.
I even enjoyed more Mary’s journey after the end of Pride & Prejudice and also learning more of the Collins and Gardeners.
Absolutely recommend reading Mary’s story!

At that moment, there was nothing they wanted more than to sit together in loving, companiable silence. It might seem an unromantic circumstance; but in truth, there is no state that better demonstrates real firmness of affection than the ability to remain quietly comfortable together without conversation.
This one is hard for me to review because even though the audiobook is eighteen hours long I listened to it in two days while cleaning up and preparing birthday gifts for one of my cousins and generally being really busy so I have no updates or highlights to lean on.
We can safely say that I loved this, I couldn't really put it down (or turn it off, I guess) and I loved how incredibly nerdy this book was. Several scenes clearly reference places from different books of Jane Austen cannon and you therefore can't help but feel that Jane Austen would have approved of this story even though she herself was quite merciless towards Mary. The references aren't limited to just Austen and include a pretty clever reference to [b:A Room of One’s Own|18521|A Room of One’s Own|Virginia Woolf|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327883012l/18521._SY75_.jpg|1315615].
I thought that overall this book was quite clever and I liked how Hadlow dealt with some of the classical questions (Like: Shouldn't Mary really marry Mr. Collins?). The romance was quite sweet as well and I just really enjoyed the book overall! For its length it really flew by and I'm worried I read it a little too quickly because it didn't stick with me quite as well as I would have liked to. 4,5⭐
