The book is mostly just “poor Mary” as she’s very very boring and no one in her family will show her any affection. Sad. I went to the reviews wondering when the book picks up and apparently the part I’d already read was the best part.

I always felt a little bad for Mary Bennet - ignored and lonely, awkward in a way that I could relate to. This novel really rounds out her character and revisits many scenes from Pride and Prejudice that I would have like to have heard Mary’s take on. The whole thing was very true to the original novel and characters while creating a believable new world with Mary at the center.

What a charming Pride and Prejudice retelling! Parts of this book made me shed actual tears, and I found myself laughing out loud more than I expected as well! A thoroughly enjoyable read, and an interesting dive into fleshing out who Mary Bennet is.
