Lots of world building but seems slow, confusing. What happened to the teenage vampires?

This was very well done. This is the first book in a series and it immediately draws you in and keeps you going throughout this whole story. The concept of how these mythical creatures came to be on planet earth is very well done and I really enjoyed it and very much look forward to hearing more about this world and these characters.!

A Shift in Shadows is a solid first book by Maddox Frey in the Lost Legacy series.

Nemain, our FMC feline shifter, was kidnapped, rescued and now she deals with PTSD and nightmares. People die around her and she’s been alive for hundred of years. She’s being tracked down by Sebastian, a warlock who used to be her lover. Now she’s with a Werewolf, and wanting revenge.

This book has very careful world building and explanations to the magical system in which this story takes place. It blends elements of Greek Mythology with more Urban Fantasy elements. It takes a while to get through this part of the book, but the world building is beautiful.

It can be a little slow in the middle, but I finished this book in 2 days. The Narrator did a great job at capturing multiple character’s personalities and emotions.

I would recommend this book for an easy fantasy read.

This was such a fantastic read, I loved spending this time with these characters, and I can't wait to see where the series!

I received this advance reader copy from Booksirens.com and am providing an unbiased review.
This is probably one of the better female-lead stories I have read in a while. As you read above, the plot synopsis explains that our MC is a shifter, with additional talents, that even she is not sure of. Yes, she is being chased/sought after, but one can only hide for so long. I cannot express how much I enjoyed reading this book! My attention was kept in the story throughout the whole read. I really enjoyed so much of the world building, how daemon/fae/vampire/werewolf/other exist amongst the realm(s), and the magic system in place. Our main character is strong-willed, yet flawed in relationship material (as are many) yet able to still kick-ass (and kiss ass) with the best. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I think this book had great fantasy and romance elements, some that I've really enjoyed in the past such as magic, different species of magical beings, failed and new relationships, etc.

However, this book started off in the middle of chaos, to put it lightly, and it kind of continued from that point on. That is to say, that I had no idea what was happening in the beginning, and am still confused after finishing. Not much is explained, and you just have to learn as you go, which threw me off in the beginning. There was also a lot of information dumping in the beginning that made me want to skip pages at a time at some point.

Overall, I liked the plot, but there seemed to be some holes that needed filling.
