Again, this was not what I was expecting, at all. There were a lot of really strange parts that confused me quite a lot, but I guess it was actually a pretty good book. The heaven she created seemed incredibly believable, and it was amazing to see what her death did to her family. Very sad, but at the same time rewarding.
Written on a very interesting premise for a novel. The first chapter starts with the main character's murder and then goes on as she comes to terms with having her life cut short and watches the aftermath from heaven in the years following her death - her family's grief, the neighborhood's shock, and her murderer covering up the tracks.
It covered everything tastefully and not graphically, but still confronted issues that stem from a tragedy and deeply affect those connected to the person it happened to. Though I couldn't say it will be one of my favorites, I enjoyed the book for what it was and I appreciate its uniqueness.

This book was hard to take in. Painful and of course beautiful in its way.

I listened to the audiobook version and I enjoyed it very much. It did get a tad too sentimental and "magical" in some sections, which isn't my style at all, but overall it's well accomplished. Some parts were beautifully written.
I am fairly certain that I did not love this book, but there were aspects that were quite touching and different. I went into the story with a few misconceptions and I think that may have been the reason for a more average rating. First off, this is not a 'who done it' crime novel. This is a story about death: the aftermath, coping, love, hate, heaven and earth. Within a few pages, the main character dies and the rest of the story describes the struggles of the family and how they deal with this tragedy from the perspective of the deceased, from heaven. The authors 'heaven' is unique, as it is whatever you want it to be and different for all. I would recommend this book, but remember this is not a crime thriller. If that is what are you looking for, read something else.

First part of the book was entertaining and the reader felt like they HAD to know what was coming next....but, the rest (most) of the book dragged. I could not bring myself to finish this book...and that means a lot, because I hate not finishing books.
A good book if you're looking for a quick and different kind of read. I have to say I was first captivated by the whole plotline and somberness if the novel, but it quickly came apart in the middle-end and went a bit outside its element, enough to draw you out of the story.
Wow, this book is heart-wrenching. The story is told by the victim of a violent crime - as she watches her family and friends struggle to deal with her death. If you enjoy this book also check out Sebold's "Lucky", the true story of her own survival of a violent assault.
