Concept for the sequel: Jack and Haleigh realizes that their attraction to each other come completely from proximity and they don’t actually have any chemistry with each other romantically. They break off the engagement and Haleigh goes back to Brian who is ten times better for her every way.

Haleigh is a plus size bisexual woman who is trying to date in her twenties after a decade of unsuccessful dates. She is frustrated with the results she is getting from dating apps and the pressure from family and friends to find her perfect match so she challenges them to do better; to find her that perfect someone she has been searching for. After ten dates arranged by her loved ones she hopes they will finally acknowledged that it isn't as easy as it seems and allow some peace on the subject. Instead, she ends up going on some not so bad dates, and then her best friend start to go against all of their carefully crafted rules to maintain the peace within their friendship post hook-up.
My main complaint is that Haleigh is written like a woman in her later thirties who is struggling to find love but is supposed to be 25. As someone in their mid twenties who identifies as being very similar to Haleigh, I found her hard to relate to.
It is nice to see this representation of plus size queer women in their twenties written in traditionally published works.

If you are just as sick as I am of swiping on the dating apps, then this book is for you…

Plot: Haleigh Berkshire, a 25-year-old plus-size woman, is fed up with a never ending string of disappointing dates and is looking to take a break from dating. Instead she agrees to let her friends and family set her up with ten people in hopes of finding a plus-one for her sister’s engagement party. But where does her best friend Jack fit into the mix?!?

Haleigh was SUCH a relatable character from the start and I loved going on this journey with her. I’ve seen a few reviews saying they thought she was whiny, but as someone who has been in her shoes more times than I could count… she can do no wrong in my eyes. I wish I could share a bottle of wine with Haleigh and share stories of all of our wild and horrible dates together.

I also love that there was queer rep with both the FMC and side characters!

3.5 Stars - Overall, this was SUCH a cute book! I am not usually the biggest fan of friends to lovers or I probably would have rated it higher. And I won’t lie, there was something about Jack’s character that just kept bothering me, but overall all would still highly recommend it!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review!

Haleigh is feeling pressure to settle down from her family and friends, so she decides to allow them to choose dates for her to go on. Her best friend Jack helps her escape the bad dates while also throwing his hat into the ring to date her himself.

I appreciated the concept of this story but found it a bit lacking in execution. Haleigh and Jack seemed to lack chemistry in the early part of the book, and I just didn’t find myself rooting for them. The bad dates were so over the top and it seemed silly to me that a twenty-five year old would be expected to settle down in a relationship or career. I think this book might appeal to those who enjoy plus size representation, friends to lovers stories, and dating mishaps.

Thank you to Jenny L. Howe and St. Martin’s Press for the arc and opportunity to read and review this book.

Everything from the characters to the banter to the writing style worked for me. I don’t always love the “dating other people to forget the one you really want” plot, but the setup here was so good. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author!
