I feel I’m going in reverse and moving from gay hockey smut to the gay hockey romance. This hit home that there really is a difference.

The levels of complexity and the relationship between the American Hunter and Canadian Bryce builds slowly and then all at once. The bisexual (gay?!) awakening of Hunter comes quickly and moves from “I like hanging out with this man” to “I want to spend my forever with him”. That was jarring but you just have to buy into the romance of it all.

No third act breakup but be warned, there is a pretty intense clinical scene instead that had me kind of squemish.

I enjoyed this very different approach to my hockey MM reading.

this story is soo so romantic. everything about the way these two love each other is so beautiful. i cried so much. what a beautiful story.

it was a bit too much french. i would've been even more annoyed if the kindle app didn't have the translation feature

Tal Bauer's books are always pretty sappy and romantic, and if I hadn't been in the mood for something like that I probably would have hated this. It was cheesy as hell, and over the top, and filled with insta-love tropes I usually hate, but, I still enjoyed it.

My biggest gripes were the constant French add ins because I kept finding myself having to translate the sentences to make sure I wasn't missing anything important, how predictable it was (I feel like every gay hockey romance follows the same plot nowadays), and the overall lack of conflict until. Things just happened too easily and I found it unbelievable. The great thing about indulgent romance though is that it doesn't have to be believable to be enjoyable, and I still found myself enjoying this sickly sweet and cheesy book.
