DNF on 2nd read
Seriously, the random French words and phrases on the middle of sentences was unnecessary. And does anyone actually talk or think like that, mixing 2 languages but only a little bit? I doubt it. We get one MC is French Canadian, you don't need to throw in so much of another language in a book, without translating it as well. It was so annoying that I stopped translating. Other reviews mention the use of French is wrong anyways which makes it so much worse. And what I did translate was so cringe.
The writing was so flowery and stupid. I hated it. And so many unnecessary paragraphs about unnecessary things that added nothing to the story. The whole bit about black holes was completely bonkers to me.
Other reviews I've read suggest a lot of the hockey elements in this book are incorrect, which is inexcusable to me. Did the author not research the game? Or study the French language. Also, several reviews mentioned the surname Molnárová is a female name. Quick research confirmed this. Did the author not look into anything for this book before writing or publishing?
Didnt like Bryce, didn't have an opinion on Hunter.

Honestly, I felt bad for Bryce at first, but as things went on, it started to feel like he was guilt-tripping Hunter into liking him back. I get that he was hurt by what happened, but the way he kind of shut Hunter out even when Hunter was trying to still be there for him just didn’t sit right with me. And when the Mackenzie said they didn’t like Hunter at first because he “broke Bryce’s heart,” it just added to that narrative, making it seem like Hunter was the one at fault for not returning Bryce’s feelings.
We also never really got to see Hunter come to terms with his feelings for Bryce. One minute he looks up to Bryce as his idol, then he’s confused about the kiss, and suddenly he’s in love with him? It felt super rushed and made no sense to me. It would’ve been so much better to actually watch him process those emotions—figuring out the difference between admiring someone as a role model and having real romantic feelings for them. We just didn’t get that distinction at all.
Also having to translate random French words every single time was kinda annoying.

Listen, I loved this book and this couple. 5 stars. But I could not get over that they never took showers after their games/practices and then were intimate. I can suspend reality a lot while reading, but for some reason I just couldn’t get past that. Why wouldn’t they shower?!
