The story revolves around Bel, an 18 year old whose mother disappeared when she was just 2 years old. She was there, but has no memories of what happened due to her young age. Now she’s being forced to “relive” the disappearance through the filming of a documentary, when she stumbles upon her mother again.

Bel is close to the family she grew up with, which includes her father as well as her cousin who grew up down the road. She has a lot of questions when her mother, Rachel, returns and is unsure if she trusts Rachel’s answers. She uses her cousin and the documentary to try to find out the truth.

The story is told in third person from Bel’s perspective.

Holly Jackson does it again. I devoured this book. Read it in one day. To say it held my attention is an understatement. The characters were not lovable the entire time, but there was so much suspense that I could not put it down. I feel that most readers try to guess a little what the truth is while they’re reading and this story was not predictable at all.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s for a chance to read and review this eARC!
