I won’t lie I struggled to get into the story at the beginning of the book and to keep picking it up. The beginning was slow and long winded and one of the FMC was hard for me to relate to. However around 70% the story really starts chugging along and has the perfect ending.
Graphic: Infidelity

Minor: Child death and Miscarriage

I normally love Williams’ work but I just couldn’t get into this one. I hate Theresa and her “funny” asides, the affair between her and Octavian is a creepy age gap romance, and it’s just so slow. The only redeeming character was Sophie but not even the “exciting” murder mystery could keep me reading. The writing was overdone and the plot boring. I instead found a review with ALLL the details of how the story progresses and the plot twists just so I can know if my predictions were right and end my misery. Apparently it’s based on Strauss’ opera Der Rosenkavalier so I’ll just go see that and hope it’s better than this book
