Obsessed with the story but I found the writing to be a bit clunky and difficult to take in, I was often confused about who is who and what exactly was happening as there was so much to take in.

I did not like the ending for our main girl Rose it felt unresolved and unnecessary as a plot point.

Regardless the warmth and support and openness of these characters is admirable and inspiring and I will take that with me

 The Garden of Memories
By Amanda James
2 out of 5 stars
Read for: The Book Girls' Guide spring mini-challenge: Gardens

After Rose retires from nursing, she finds she has too much time on her hands. She starts to spend time in the garden that her late husband started. Over time, more people are drawn to the garden and plant their own memories.

What started off as a strong story became boring and frustrating the further I read. I didn't care for the characters, especially Flora, who was particularly distasteful and hurtful. To be honest, by the end of this book, I struggled to find anything I did like. For being women who are middle-aged and older, the cast is a bunch of insecure whiners. I guess I prefer to read about strong, inspiring women.

Here is one quote I did like: "Right now, she's a bit like a lighthouse without a light."

Overall, I would not recommend this book. However, there may be an audience of people who enjoy coming-of-age stories that take place in late adulthood, those who reminisce about their younger days in ways that get them way caught up in the "what-ifs," or those who are wondering what might happen to them in their retirement days.

I enjoyed it as a slow, dont really need to think about it, kind of book. Literally no twists and turns, all lighthearted and "nice". Was a bit too samey all the way through.
