Now this is a thriller! Very well-written and a good plot. There was never a dull moment; the story hummed along pretty quickly. One of my favorites of Gerritsen’s books.

I did not particularly like this one...

Spoilers from here on out...

So the development of the characters, the one thing that bothered me was that the one time that Maura actually took a risk and did something wistful, it turns completely sour, and we will now no longer see Maura step outside the lines, or break any boundaries that were set.

I truly did like the character of Rat and I grew attached to him and Bear. I LOVED the ending for him, how Anthony Sansone will take him into that awesome school, Evensong. It sounds perfect for him.

Maura FINALLY broke up with Father Daniel Brophy! I never liked them as a couple much less a physical concealed relationship. It was too much for me. I guess that just goes to show that Maura did step out of boundaries, more than once. Huh..I guess I was wrong. But still! It blew up in her face, even though she knew it was wrong to begin with!

Her whole trip to this convention in Wyoming was just blah for me. I didn't care about Doug, Elaine, Arlo, or Grace. They were all flat for me. I'm sorry that Arlo lost his leg and the painful death he had to go through, but other than that, I just didn't care for them.

This whole cult living in the woods, I thought it was a good premise for this book, but I did not like it. And then to find out that Jeremiah actually did not lead them to a mass suicide was just like omg ok? really? how much more ridiculous can this get?

I just kept reading to read. I did not care about the plot. I wanted to see what happened with Rat and if Maura would adopt him. But I'm glad things worked out the way they did.

I'm also glad to see that Katie Sheldon did escape, but I'm sorry for the way things ended up for her. And her killing Jeremiah finally set all those people free. That whole cult just gave me the hibbie jibbies! The prologue was beyond sick and terrifying. How can these people actually just hand over their daughters like that?! Ugh! Sick!

Anyway, this wasn't my favorite in the series, but I will continue on. Gerritsen's writing is VERY good, but I just wish her plots would be more like [b:The Surgeon|32263|The Surgeon (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #1)|Tess Gerritsen|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1277923728s/32263.jpg|2674805].

Oh well, I finished it in a matter of hours, so obviously the writing was superb like always!

What I liked:
-tension and atmosphere
-main characters
-Maura’s storyline
-Gabriel Dean is hot

What I disliked:
-some characters (especially at the beginning of the book) are a bit one dimensional
-the ending was not my favourite
-some of it felt like it was written for shock value

Overall thoughts: a gripping story, but I feel like I have read too many books similar to this one, I used to enjoy them more

Rizzoli and Isles return for book 8. I love these characters, they are so well written and their personalities shine through. Their interaction is brilliant, and their friendship strong. I think they could appear in any story and make it interesting and exciting.

Ms Gerritsen has done it again! Awesome mystery thriller read in 2 days, a record for me I think.
Dr Maura Isles plays center stage in this one. Dr Isles attends a medical conference. She bumps into a school mate from pre-med. They get together and before she knows it, agrees to go on a ski trip with him and his friends. As they drive to the resort, they end up on an unmarked road and their car gets stuck in the deep snow. Its 30 miles back to the gas station and no cell service. They decide to walk back but before they get started, Maura sees a sign. Its a private road and they decide they should investigate the road to see if there are any houses. What they find is haunting. I won't say any more, you have to read it!

One of my favorites so far this year! Suspenseful, creepy, and surprising! This is the first Rizzoli and Isles book I've read, and now I want to read them all!
