This is very, very good. The pacing as the author lays out the process of two people falling in love in two very different settings, the relationships between the characters (both the main couple and the side characters around them), the way things are complicated and the way the complications are resolved, all of it is very, very good. I didn't feel like the ending was quite the right place to end it; it felt like one or two threads were left hanging. However, those threads are not overly important to the story, so at the same time I don't think that's a huge issue.

E-gamer, mistaken identity, catfishing and overall hilarity. It took me a while to get into the novel, separating all of the lingo of the trash game, matching in-game nicknames to irl names.
Jing Huang/Xiao Tianjing falling for his gege/Xiang Huaizhi/Yearning For was so slow and sweet but their interactions had me rolling around giggling as they stumbled across each others identities and fell in love.
The pace of the book drags a little in the first third, but by the time we hit their dating era I was thoroughly hooked.

I loved Jing Huan’s as our MC in Guide on How to Fail at Online Dating. Watching his ridiculous attempts at wooing Xiang Huaizhi (ML) in his in game fox fairy persona was just too funny. I laughed a lot about the many weird things he did and how he slowly made progress. The in game chats and We Chat conversations were a joy to read (as they are in every Jiang Zi Bei book).
Xiang Huaizhi was actually a super sweet guy and I was cheering him on a lot. His dry sense of humour only added to his charm.
Of course things were unrealistic at times but that didn’t diminish my experience in any way. As a reader you just don’t have to take it all too seriously and just enjoy the flow of the story. The fan translation was pretty good and I highly appreciated the cultural references, especially those to every day life in China.
This was my third Jiang Zi Bei novel and I loved it. This author’s sense of humour is great fun.
