Beautifully illustrated and a moving tribute to Frida's life and work.

I hated this book. I believe that both illustrations and text were okay, but I just couldn't stand the story of Frida Kahlo's life. And yeah, it does not make any sense to judge a biography by telling "I hate the way this person lived their life", but I did and it made the book not enjoyable.

I enjoyed this read about Frida. Frida was tough and inventive. She suffered a horrible accident as teen that changed her life and left her dealing with sadness and grief the rest of that life. She put that into her paintings, always.

She also married someone she knew was a womanizer and he broke her heart many times. Frida has a will to life that is inspirational. She painted herself and what she knew best, what she could see. I saw the Salma Hayek movie years ago when it came out and it was good. I think it was better, but this is a quick and lovely way to learn about Frida. The artwork is recreated here. It's interesting.

I think Frida is a wonderful figure to admire. She defied expectations and she trusted her own vision. She was brave and modern and she forged a new path for women. She also suffered that she was never a mother. I can see this being great for people interested in art and art history.
