Absolutely brilliant! The graphic designer who illustrated this book did such a phenomenal job of interpreting Frida's paintings that I couldn't keep my eyes off them! Was drawn to this book while browsing a local independent book store, and I am so glad I brought it home. The paintings in this book retain Frida's characteristic style, while still being given an entirely new identity at the same time! I had such a trip comparing the originals with these interpretations while learning about Frida's life! So, so, so much in love with this book!

I enjoyed this read about Frida. Frida was tough and inventive. She suffered a horrible accident as teen that changed her life and left her dealing with sadness and grief the rest of that life. She put that into her paintings, always.
She also married someone she knew was a womanizer and he broke her heart many times. Frida has a will to life that is inspirational. She painted herself and what she knew best, what she could see. I saw the Salma Hayek movie years ago when it came out and it was good. I think it was better, but this is a quick and lovely way to learn about Frida. The artwork is recreated here. It's interesting.
I think Frida is a wonderful figure to admire. She defied expectations and she trusted her own vision. She was brave and modern and she forged a new path for women. She also suffered that she was never a mother. I can see this being great for people interested in art and art history.

Me he dado cuenta de que realmente sabía muy poco de la vida de Frida Kahlo. Las ilustraciones de María Hesse son preciosas ❤️
