ugh. loved the first book. was OK with the second, but really had to force myself through this one. I constantly had the feeling that the author had just that mindset when writing the trilogy...

I waited and waited for this to become available on audiobook, and it never did, so I eventually checked out a hardcover from the library and read it the old-fashioned way. It was a good conclusion to the trilogy, not quite up to the level of the first two books, for me, but satisfying. This one felt both action-packed and kind of draggy, spending a lot of time on random tiny battles that never added up to much. Still, it was great to spend time with these characters and their world. Fun!

Though it ultimately was good, I felt like it was slow to get there.

It’s really hard to wait a year between installments, and it was really hard to start this one, number three out of three. Because I just didn’t want the series to end. I am not a fantasy reader and I never considered Nora Roberts to be a fantasy author, but this dystopian/faerie/witch/evil novel didn’t disappoint!

Each novel was released in November, beginning in 2017 and culminating in 2019. The first one was simply amazing. Ms. Roberts created the world I never dreamed I would care about, but I was so invested in that story, I loved each and every character development, plot twist and resolution. I couldn’t wait for number two. And then I read that one, and it was amazing, as good as the first. And then there was a year to wait until the third and final installment.

I was in a place in my personal life where I just couldn’t start it in November, no matter how long I waited for it, no matter how eager I was to read it. So I didn’t start it until March 2020. And again, I was not disappointed. I read it with a different mindset, though; this time I was reading it, preparing to be disappointed, preparing for the end. And I have to say, I was disappointed. Not in the storyline, not in the ending, not in the characters, not in the plot. I’m disappointed because there is no number four, number five, or number six. I bought each and everyone of these for myself, in hardcover. And I’ve kept each one, and I will reread each one. I was sucked into this world and I want to live through it again. So I definitely will be reading these books again.

I've spent every free moment of the last 5 days immersed in the Chronicle of the One series. I absolutely loved it (although Nora Roberts got a LOT of flack over these), but I'm biased because my mom instilled a love of Nora Roberts' books in me a long time ago. I laughed, I grieved, I battled, and I loved right along with Fallon Swift and all those she loved and battled back the dark with and for as The One. I have yet to read a Nora Roberts book that I didn't like, and most of them I love absolutely, including these three.
