Stuart Turton does it again with The Last Murder at the End of the World, blending dystopian vibes with a gripping murder mystery. The premise is wild: an island sanctuary surrounded by a deadly fog, a ticking clock, and a brutal murder that threatens everyone's survival. The world-building is top-notch, creating a chilling yet fascinating backdrop. The suspense is palpable with every chapter, thanks to the race against time. If you loved the clever puzzles in The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, you'll find this one just as intriguing. It's a must-read for fans of dystopian thrillers with a twisty plot.

“The Last Murder at the End of the World” by Stuart Turton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

“The Last Murder at the End of the World” brings you on a murder mystery at world’s end. A killer fog has ravished the earth and killed off most of humanity. All that remains are some villagers and scientists who are trying to save what is left. When one of the scientists if found dead, one reluctant villager takes on the job of finding her killer—problem is, she might not like what she’s going to find. OH! And she only has 107 hours or all of the people in the island are going to die because the fog still rages outside the barriers of the island. 🙃

Turton has really out done himself in this one. The twists and turns of this novel almost didn’t stop. I also believe that this is his most literary of his three mysteries because this book has a lot to say about humanity and technological advancement which is something I wasn’t really expecting in a mystery/thriller.

As for the non spoiler-y contents of the novel, the pacing is pretty slow which is not too different from Turton’s other novels. This novel does feel more like Clue with all its moving parts and scenarios of who could have been/was the killer.

For me, “Evelyn Hardcastle” still reigns supreme but this and “The Devil and the Dark Water” are still high upon my list of my all time favorite mysteries.
